Great news for Android fans! Google has officially released the Android 15 source code, allowing developers to start building custom experiences using the latest mobile operating system. However, regular users will have to wait a little longer.

Source Code Live, Pixel Users to Get Update Soon

The Android 15 source code is now available on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) website, but the public rollout is yet to happen. Pixel devices, including the newly launched Pixel 9 series, are expected to receive the update in the “coming weeks.” This aligns with earlier rumors pointing toward an October release for Pixel phones.

Longer Wait for Non-Pixel Phones

If you’re using a device from brands like Samsung, OnePlus, Oppo, Xiaomi, or others, you’ll need to be patient. Android 15 is expected to roll out to these devices “in the coming months,” but Google hasn’t provided a specific timeline for when each manufacturer will push the update.

Security Patch Released for Pixel Users

While Pixel users await the full Android 15 upgrade, Google has rolled out a September update for Pixel 6 and newer models. Though still on Android 14, this update includes:

  1. Enhanced Wi-Fi stability and performance for the Pixel 9 series.
  2. The September 2024 security patch, which fixes vulnerabilities and removes a third-party APK.

What’s Next for Developers?

With the Android 15 source code now live, developers have the opportunity to explore the OS, create custom ROMs, and introduce new features. For regular users, this will eventually result in new, exciting experiences on their devices.

Though the wait continues for most users, the official release of Android 15 is a step forward, and it’s only a matter of time before the update reaches more devices.
